Farmshoring

Farmshoring is a term I've missed but has been around for several years.  It describes outsourcing or locating operations in rural areas of the US instead of moving them off-shore.   The advantages are:

  • fewer cultural or language barriers
  • no time zone issues
  • lower complexity due to a lack of foreign laws and regulations
  • easier to set up and manage
  • cheaper and easier travel
  • access to a well educated work force at reasonable costs

The Wisconsin Technology Network has a good article on attracting farmshoring business to rural Wisconsin.

I first saw this on the EDpro blog.
